I started out the day helping the clinician perform the listening check. Everything sounded good, except there seemed to be a crack prior to the speaker presentation. I told the clinician and she made a note of it.

The day started out with a hearing aid fitting. The woman had come in previously for her evaluation and decision to purchase the aids. The aids had just arrived and she got to try them out for the first time. She seemed really excited and said everything sounded much louder. Since this was the woman I had been following all semester, it was so good to see her so happy. She sceduled a follow-up appointment for 2 weeks. This way she can come in and they can modify anything if necessary. :)

This morning was a very busy morning in the hearing clinic!
First I helped the clinician perform the listening check. While using the speakers, I noticed a little crack a couple times and told the clinician...it was not enough to distort the sound, but just something to be aware of.
The first client was a gentleman from Printing Services. He was there for his routine hearing evaluation. Previous audiograms indicated he had a high frequency hearing loss. The current evaluation, was very similar and no steps toward amplification were taken.
The next client was a 5 year old little girl, she was absolutely adorable! She is a client in the speech clinic and her mother wanted to have her hearing re-evaluated. During the otoscopic examination, large amounts of cerumen was present in both canals. Shallow tymps were recorded bilaterally, which was probably the result of the cerumen. The best part of this evaluation was that the clinician had me go into the sound booth with the little girl and play with her. We dropped the bears in the bucket when she heard the sound. She started to get a little tired at the end and told me that the sounds were "too tiny" for her to hear. She was so cute! When my time slot ended, they had just started speech testing, but the little girl seemed to be doing quite well.
Today was a great day in the clinic! :)

To begin the session this morning I sat in the booth while the clinician performed the listening check.

The same woman from last week came back today to decide on which hearing aid she wanted to buy. They had sent her home with the information pamphlets from and Oticon and Widex aid. Since the aids we fairly comparable in every aspect except for price, she decided to choose the less expensive Widex aid. The clinician ordered her aid from Audiological Supply House. She will be returning next week for the hearing aid fitting. I am really excited to see this because I have never seen them program an aid. Stay tuned for next week's update! :)

The 10:00 client called in to cancel.
