For the first time so far this semester I was able to see a young child in the clinic. He was 2 yrs old and had been referred by his pediatrician because of delayed speech and language. The child was very cooperative during otoscopy and tympanometry. His tymps were slightly negative, but still had a peak. VRA was used with the child, but they only were able to obtain a responses because the child got bored with the testing. They were able to perform OAE's, which came back normal. The clinic supervisor explained the findings to the mother and said the report would be sent to both the mother and pediatrician.
Also, an older gentleman came in because his hearing aids were squealing. He has had his aids since 2003 and indicated that he might want new aids. They had a very difficult time getting the squealing to stop, but after almost an hour, they were able to eliminate the squealing. This man is in the clinic almost every other week though, so I am sure he will be back due to some other problem with his aids.
